Jethro Pickett band live at Mid Winter Fest

Willie Smith's, Huonville

Into the light: celebrating a decade of revelry.

In the depth of winter, uncommon people gather from far and close to celebrate the dormant apple tree being awakened and look forward to the light of harvest. Join us for what the festival is famous for - the Wassail ritual, the burning of effigy Big Willie, music, dancing and feasting. The tenth festival will cease marking years and will look to the next bright decade and a new future of renewal.

Come together to continue our dance around the fire and celebrate the darkness, to mark the start of a new era and what lies ahead....

Jethro Pickett live at Tin Camp Studios MONA

Jethro plays a set at the legendary Tin Camp Studios (MONA).

A pop-up performance space constructed from salvaged materials, modelled on the Aboriginal-built tin camps found at the edge of countless Australian townships from the 1950s to today. Constructed by Tin Camp Studios founder—and proud Yuwaalaraay man—Warren as a place for sharing music, dance, storytelling, and healing (and recording), Tin Camp Studio will be hosting our outdoor music until late November. Warren will also be co-programming acts and performances throughout the studio’s time on the lawns.

Tin Camp is a First Nations-led project developed by Warren Mason and supported by Kath Melbourne. It is presented by Contemporary Art Tasmania and Mona. Tin Camp has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund—an Australian Government initiative; Live Music Australia and Regional Arts Australia; and Arts Tasmania by the Minister for the Arts.

Jethro Pickett & Thrash Can

Some Velvet Morning, 123 Queens Parade, Clifton Hill

Jethro Pickett is a Tasmania based singer songwriter who in March 2018 released his sophomore record, France, via Phill Calvert's Behind The Beat Records. Written and Recorded between Dublin, London and Yikesville studio in Melbourne, France is a fresh sounding release with elements of freak folk and psychedelia. Melodic songs are at the core. He's just returned from a European tour and is working on new material. Order France at all good record stores or online.

With special guests, Thrash Can.

Thrash Can is a duo group made up of David M. Western and Hannah Blackburn. Together they sing thrash metal/folk songs that they themselves consider ‘in the trash’ for their own solo endeavours, however, the songs in question have found themselves a new home, into the finger picking and harmony singing double threat, Thrash Can. Also taking requests (but probably won’t know how to play them) and some covers of nice songs turned bad.
